Practical Support for the LGBTQ+ Community

Members of the LGBTQ+ community experience divorce and the loss of a loved one similarly to heterosexual/cisgender people, but they may face additional challenges that often go unseen or unacknowledged. Divorce and the loss of a loved one (especially a spouse) are sometimes made more difficult by hurtful responses by their families, friends, or other people they encounter.

When you’re already going through a difficult time, the last thing you want to deal with is cruel, insensitive, or rude people, whether they intend to behave that way or not. Unfortunately, both divorce and the loss of a loved one typically come with a number of interactions with strangers that are tough to deal with when you’re in a vulnerable spot.

Many professionals may be involved in these difficult life events, such as mediators, attorneys, and financial professionals. There also could be calls to schools, banks, and other institutions to update account information. In addition to having to inform many of these people (often strangers) about the loss or divorce, these phone calls can result in additional paperwork and frustration in an already difficult time.

That’s where Compass Coordinators comes in. We provide practical support during separation, divorce, and after the loss of a loved one, which means everything from recommending LGBTQ-friendly professionals to making phone calls on our clients’ behalf. Organizing, prioritizing, and completing tasks during these transitions allows our clients the time and space they need to heal.

Compass Coordinators is committed to equality and we support clients of all backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, ethnicities, and religions. Learn more about our services here or reach out with any questions!
